The NHS use Flow

to treat depression

The NHS have been using Flow in 4 NHS trusts across Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and West London.

They also offer the treatment to their own doctors - clinicians suffering from depression can access Flow through NHS Practitioner Health (if they live in England and Scotland).

Every NHS service using Flow has independently published their findings that demonstrate Flow is safe and effective to use. You can read more about these studies below.

"Up to 75% drop in suicidal ideation"

The Leicestershire NHS Partnership Trust Crisis Service has shown up to a 75% drop in suicidal ideation across the trial, with the trust confirming that hospital admissions had been avoided.

NHS Crisis Team and Flow

Community Mental Health, Northamptonshire

"Results support the use of Flow"

NHS Community Mental Health teams (CMHT) have been using Flow to support people in their mental health recovery.

“It is important to offer patients an evidenced-backed alternative to existing depression treatments (antidepressant medication and psychotherapies). The results support the use of Flow as a treatment option for CMHT patients with symptoms of depression.”

"Improvements in emotional well-being"

In March 2023 Flow was successfully offered to patients as an alternative to antidepressants or therapy at select GP practices in Northamptonshire.

Doctor Azhar Zafar, the NHS GP leading the trial said: “Flow has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our patients, who have reported improvements in their emotional well-being, increased energy levels, and overall functioning."

Perinatal Mental Health Services, Northamptonshire

"Helps participants deal with challenging situations"

Dr Carol Abraham, Specialty Doctor from NHFT Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service said:

“We are pleased to be able to offer tDCS as part of a range of therapies as reviewed by NICE for the treatment of depression, especially as sometimes mothers prefer not to take medication if they are breastfeeding.”

Can I get Flow on the NHS?

We are working hard to have Flow widely available on the NHS.

Flow is available in trials on the NHS in Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and West London. If you live in one of these areas, you may meet the qualifying criteria. Talk to your GP to see if it's accessible for you.

If you are outside of these areas, we would still recommend speaking to your GP about Flow. This discussion could help you evaluate whether it might be a suitable treatment option for you.
